“Ever since I came onboard with Neighbourhood Noms as a host for the cooking classes, I feel that it has really given me a lot of self-confidence when it comes to interacting with others.
Plus, I get to meet people from all over the world and teach them how to make some of my favourite dishes – how cool is that?”
– Siti Sufiyyah Ithnin, 35 years old
On one Saturday every month, three mothers get together at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA of Singapore) to teach people from all over the world how to cook local delicacies such as roti jala, popiah and ondeh ondeh. Organised by a group of students from the @National University of Singapore (NUS), they hope to make a difference in society by empowering women from low-income families, while giving foreigners a taste – literally – of some of Singaporeans’ popular delights.
Watch on to see what some of the participants have to say about their experience at the classes!
